Gliese 367 bGliese 367 b

Gliese 367 b: Scientists have found a planet outside our solar system that is completely made of iron. This ultrashort period planet is equal to the size of Earth and has only iron on it. Let us know the complete details of this new house.

Gliese 367 b:

Gleize 367 B, also known as Tahay. It is made of solid iron whose size is almost equal to the Earth. It is an ultrashort period (USP) planet. The planet orbits the red dwarf star Gliese 367, located 31 light-years (9.5 parsecs) from Earth in the constellation Vela. It was discovered in 2021 by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). This ultrashort period planet makes one revolution around its sun i.e. star in just 7.7 hours.

Ultrashort Period Planet Gliese 367b Overview

Scientists have so far discovered about 200 ultrashort period planets. Gliese 367b is a unique planet because it is filled with only the purest iron. It was discovered with the help of the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). Its discovery was confirmed by the High-Accuracy Radial Velocity Planet Searcher (HARPS) spectrograph at the European Southern Observatory.

Orbit and Environment

According to scientists, Gliese 367B also has two sister planets named Gliese 367C and D. Both of these are also USP planets that revolve around the same star. The name of its star is Gliese 367 which is a red dwarf like our Sun.
The globe is 72 percent of the Earth’s size. That means it is a little small. The weight is 55 percent of the earth’s weight. However, the density is twice as high because there are fewer layers below its surface.

Discovery of exoplanet Gliese 367 b

Gliese 367 b was discovered by NASA’s space telescope TESS in 2021. TESS searches for exoplanets by observing the small dips in brightness that occur when a planet passes in front of its star. The formation of Gleize 367 B is still under study.

Outer Layer Information:

The core of this planet is very dense, so it is difficult to know whether this planet has any outer layer or not. This house is completely made of iron with a mantle filled with silicate all around it.
This ultrashort period planet has no crust, so you can call it a kind of protoplanet. Scientists believe that its outer layer has been destroyed. Let us tell you that Gliese 367b also comes in the category of Super Mercury planets.

There is wide diversity in our solar system

It is not easy to understand the diversity of nature and the depth of the universe. Therefore, the discovery of Gliese 367 b is important because it reveals how planets form and evolve. Let us tell you that there are some planets in our galaxy that may be very different from the planets of our own solar system.
