Govt issues notification to levy fine up to Rs 1000 if PAN-Aadhaar are not linked before this date
Income Tax department on Wednesday issues a notification asking the taxpayers to link their PAN card with Aadhaar by March 31.
The government, through a notification, has brought into effect the Income Tax (Third Amendment) Rules, 2022 with effect from April 1, 2022.
These rules of income text make it clear for every person to link Aadhaar number with PAN number, failing which penalty will be paid.

Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said that delayed reporting of Aadhaar will attract a late fee of Rs 500 in cases where it is linked within the next 3 months or by June 30, 2022.
CBDT said that within 3 months or after June 30, 2022, Rs 1,000 will be paid. Taxpayers will have to pay as fine.
The CBDT further added that not linking PAN with Aadhaar will lead to PAN becoming inoperative after March 31, 2022 and it can be re-operationalised on payment of penalty.
It is advisable for taxpayers to check their income tax portal and ensure that Aadhaar and PAN are linked.
