There are 3 types of affordable rental housing supported by The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
1- Public Housing: It provides affordable rental houses or apartments for low-income families, senior citizens, and people with disabilities.
2- Housing Choice Voucher Program: Find a rental property and use Housing Choice Voucher to pay for all or part of the rent.
3- Privately owned subsidized housing: Landlords are compensated by the government to pay reduced rents for tenants with lower incomes.
For Privately owned subsidized housing, Search for an apartment and apply directly at the rental management office.
To apply for Housing Choice Voucher Program contact a public housing agency in your state.
